Statement of mission, ownership and control of the Arvigo Institute

In the mid-1990s in the Cayo region of Belize, Dr. Rosita Arvigo founded a program of study to train interested healthcare professionals in the alternative health care treatments that she had developed from her experience working with Don Eligio Panti, a highly regarded Belizean traditional healer, and her own knowledge as a naprapath physician. Word spread over the years and in 2003 Dr. Arvigo established The Arvigo Institute, LLC to operate the training program in what are now known as The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy®. The Institute operated under the leadership of Diane MacDonald, an advanced Arvigo Practitioner, teacher, and licensed Nurse Practitioner in New Hampshire with the advice and support of Rosita Arvigo and other advanced Arvigo Practitioners. This continued to 2015 when Diane and her husband purchased the Institute from Dr. Arvigo who had a number of related professional interests and needed to move on from the responsibility of overseeing the ongoing operation of the Arvigo Institute. Rosita remains, however, an Arvigo teacher and consultant to the Institute.

List of Officers, Board, Faculty, and Staff;

The Arvigo Institute is owned and operated by Diane MacDonald and her husband, Stephen. Diane is the managing director assisted by Stephen, a former public school educator, corporate trainer, and massage therapist, Melinda Adams, Institute office manager, and Karen Cornrow, Institute office assistant.

There is no formal board, but the operation of the Institute continues as before with the advice and counsel of Rosita Arvigo and Arvigo Practitioners who have been with the program since before the inception of the Institute in 2003 and who are themselves advanced Arvigo teachers.

Admission Requirements

At the beginning level There are Hands on Health the Maya Way and Self Care Level 1 which are both open to all with no prerequisite for either. Self Care Level 1, however, is itself a prerequisite for taking further training to become an Arvigo® Practitioner.

The entry level workshop for practitioners is Professional Care Training Level 2 which prepares professional health care workers to apply Arvigo Therapy to their clients.

Attending Professional Care Training requires that applicants already have a license to touch clients to apply therapeutic treatment where such treatment is regulated by the state or province or country which has the legal authority to oversee the work of their profession. Examples of such regulated professions includes massage therapists, nurses, naturopaths, physicians, acupuncturists, physical therapists, midwives, etc.

Where recognized professions are not regulated by local governmental authority, applicants must provide proof of having completed a training program of 200 hours or more that is recognized by their profession or a combination of education and experience that in the judgement of the Arvigo Institute would ensure an applicant has the background to successfully complete Professional Care Training Level 2 to become a competent and safe Arvigo® Practitioner. For additional information call The Arvigo Institute office.

Course Schedule and Logistics

The Arvigo Institute does not follow a semester calendar such as do colleges and universities. Workshops are scheduled throughout the calendar year at various locations. Consult the Arvigo Institute website,  www.Arvigotherapy.com, for an up-to-date list of all currently scheduled workshop offerings, locations, and cost. This list is updated regularly as additional offerings are posted on the website. To inquire further, call the Arvigo Institute at 603-588-2571 or email inquiries to office [at] arvigotherapy.com.

Workshops are held at multiple locations throughout the US and the world to best accommodate access to training for students. All workshop postings include detailed information about enrollment requirements, locations, and how to get there.

Hands on Health and Self Care workshops are scheduled and locations are determined by the teachers of those classes. For additional information on those classes contact the teacher for the most up to date information.

All practitioner level classes are scheduled and managed by the Arvigo Institute office. Complete information is posted with each class.

Student Participation and Responsibilities

The Arvigo Institute expects students to assume responsibility for achieving the outcome they desire from taking workshops offered by the Arvigo Institute. This means students are expected to consult the Institute website or printed informational material and even call the Institute office (603-588-2571) if they should need further clarification.

Students are required to attend class each day of the workshop, to be on time, and to participate for the full workshop day unless they have made other arrangements with the Arvigo Institute office or the workshop teacher.

Arvigo Institute workshops do not issue grades in the traditional sense. Students are evaluated and coached throughout the workshop by the teacher and/or members of the teaching team who themselves are fully qualified Arvigo® Practitioners so students will be able to return to their practice able to properly and safely apply Arvigo® Therapy to their clients.

Students who choose to withdraw while a workshop is in session may be eligible for a partial tuition refund, however, credit for partial completion of the class may or may not be available to the student depending on the teaching team’s evaluation of the student’s performance.

If the student’s performance is found to have been adequate for partial credit, the Arvigo Institute office upon the recommendation of the teaching team will determine what the student must do to complete the class and inform the student of this. The student will be offered an opportunity to do so with conditions and a time limit. In any case the student will be responsible for any additional costs.

CEs are awarded only upon completion of a workshop. The Institute does award partial CEs.

There are no programs currently offered by the Arvigo Institute. All offerings are for individual workshops. Upon completion of the workshop students are awarded a certificate of completion by The Arvigo Institute.

Students who qualify for admission and make a best effort to complete a workshop are generally able to do so. On the rare occasion where a student does not complete a class, but in the view of the teaching team the student made an honest effort to do so, the Arvigo Institute attempts to determine a way for the student to do so. In these cases any additional cost and completion requirements are the responsibility of the student.

Financial Information

Tuition, fees, and all other charges and expenses and policies necessary for completion of a workshop are posted with each class on the Institute website

The Arvigo Institute complies with the NH Office of Career School Licensing policy for tuition refund as defined by NH Hedc 307.

Workshops may be cancelled for any reason by the Arvigo Institute up to 14 calendar days prior to the beginning day of the workshop. In those rare cases the Institute will issue a full refund of tuition and/or fees already paid to the Institute. The Arvigo Institute, LLC and/or Teachers are not responsible for costs incurred that were not paid directly to the Arvigo Institute, LLC.

Since the Arvigo Institute has a unique program, transfer of credit may not be possible. The Institute will provide the student with documentation of their attendance and completion that they can provide to another program or school. The Institute cannot, however, guarantee it will be acceptable. An administrative fee may be levied for this service.

Resolution of Grievances

Students who have a complaint should address it directly and promptly. Any complaint submitted more than a few days after an issue has occurred, risks fading memories and elusive evidence.

If the complaint has to do with a workshop in progress or one they have recently attended, the student should bring it to the teacher as soon as is reasonably possible. If resolution with the teacher is not successful for whatever reason, or the dissatisfaction had to do with the Institute per se, the student should bring the complaint to the Institute office. Complaints brought to the Institute office must be in writing (email is acceptable) and should include as much information as is needed to understand the issue and identify what and who is involved.
